Chuck’s Leadership Declarations
The history books are filled with pivotal moments when someone made a DECLARATION—a declaration stating something certain, something significant.
What are you certain of when it comes to leadership? What are you willing to ‘go on record’ regarding your convictions about leadership?
Here’s where I stand:
1. I will seek to discern God’s plans and purposes and lead those entrusted to my care in that direction—only. Whatever leadership influence I have will not be about me, my dreams, or my agenda.
2. With each opportunity for leadership, I will show up to serve, not to be served. I will consistently ask God where I can make a contribution to His Kingdom work and then with His enablement, I will roll up my sleeves and get busy.
3. I will confess daily that I am in desperate need for God’s grace and wisdom for what the day ahead holds and that apart from Him I can do nothing of lasting significance.
4. I will suit up daily in the full armor of God, knowing that there is an enemy who aggressively seeks to destroy my life and my witness.
5. I will live and lead within a community of counsel and accountability. I will not go it alone.
6. I will embrace my leadership role as a sacred stewardship, avoiding the privileges and perks that too often attend positions of influence and too often lead to damaging compromises.

7. I will actively invest in the development of future leaders, equipping and empowering them to advance God’s purposes beyond my own leadership tenure.
8. I will honor God’s rhythm of work and rest, ensuring time for Sabbath and personal renewal so that I can lead from a place of wholeness and strength.
9. I will make my singular priority to hear at the end of my days the words of my Master, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

So what do you think? What declarations would you add?
My personal encouragement to you would be to calendar some extended time of reflection and draft out your own list of declarations. They will serve you as true north, especially during seasons of challenge and uncertainty which inevitably will come.
And oh yes, one more thought. Be sure to front-load each declaration with the words “By the grace of God and the enabling power of His Spirit…”
