Talk about something that puts gas in your tank!
Under the banner of Lead With Your Life, I have the can-you-believe-I-get-to-do-this privilege to disciple leaders—not just any leaders, but Kingdom leaders—people who are serious about making a difference through how they live their lives. We’ve branded these leadership discipleship groups “Rock Solid”, with an endgame of developing leaders who are rock solid on the inside and courageous for the Kingdom on the outside.
In pursuit of our endgame, we have a pre-flight checklist of objectives that includes developing a Personal Profile—a document that catalogs a variety of essential elements about a leader’s identity and calling. (BTW, if you’d like to get a copy, just email me at chuck@leadwithyourlife.com).
One of the items stashed away in the Personal Profile is to identify a Life Verse.
What’s a Life Verse? My own working definition is that a Life Verse is a verse or short passage from the Scriptures that resonates with a truth you want or need to be reminded of repeatedly.
A Life Verse serves you as a leader in many ways. It may inspire you when you’re flat. It may challenge you when you’re soft. It may guide you when you’re lost. It may encourage you when you’re down. You get the picture.
A Life Verse serves you as a leader in many ways. It may inspire you when you’re flat. It may challenge you when you’re soft. It may guide you when you’re lost. It may encourage you when you’re down.
My own Life Verse is Galatians 2:20.
My old self has been crucified with Christ.
It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.
So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God,
Who loved me and gave Himself for me.
I have chosen Galatians 2:20 as my Life Verse because it reminds me…
• That it’s NOT about me (which is my default setting).
• That I have the moment-by-moment indwelling presence of Christ Himself. I’m never on my own. Never outmatched.
• That the ultimate game plan for my life is TRUST. I’m called to a no-holds-barred confidence in and reliance on Christ.
• That the Person in whom my trust is placed has displayed His love for me in undeniable terms.
My Life Verse reminds me of the truth that I have the moment-by-moment indwelling presence of Christ Himself. I’m never on my own. Never outmatched.
Rehearsing my Life Verse is how I start my day. And perhaps more importantly, it’s how I recalibrate my day, throughout the day. It calls me out. At times, it smacks me on the side of the head. Like the defib paddles, it jolts me back to reality.
Do you have a Life Verse? If not, I’d encourage you to get one. I believe you will find it of significant value in your life and leadership.
Take your Life Verse and pin it on your SUV dashboard. Pin it on your bathroom mirror. Pin it on your refrigerator. But most of all, pin it on your heart.
And let its truth transform you.
